About Team 4149

      The Terabytes are a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics team of students.  FIRST Tech Challenge is one of four leagues of robotics competition hosted by FIRST. There is FIRST Lego League (FLL) for grades 4-8 to learn programing, teamwork engineering and research, Junior FLL is for K-3. FTC and FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is for students grades 7-12, FTC creates smaller more transformable robots for small lower budget teams while FRC builds larger robots and can have up to and over 50 people on any given team. The Terabytes aren't associated with any organization and have formed as a group of friends.  The team's students are both public and home schooled and their mentors are professional engineers.

      The team began as a FLL team in 2004, ending with their participation in the 2010 World Robotics Festival in Atlanta, Georgia.  The Terabytes moved on in the fall of 2010, as FTC Team 4149.  After a series of Qualifying Tournaments competing in the "Get Over It" challenge, they qualified for the Pennsylvania Regional Championship where they won the Finalist Alliance award.  The Terabytes grew to seven members in the 2011-2012 season, and set the goal of going to the World Robotics Championship in St. Louis, Missouri.  The "Bowled Over" challenge took the Terabytes to new heights, and they set a team high score of 584 points.  At the Ohio Championship the team won the Inspire award, the most prestigious award in FIRST competitions, which granted the team an invitation to the World Robotics Championship.  In St. Louis the Terabytes earned 17th place over all out of 128 teams.

      Going into the 2012-2013 "Ring it Up" season, the Terabytes expanded to 9 members and traveled in March 2013 to Agua Viva Children's School in Guatemala.  This continuing mission aims to supply the school with the materials and curriculum necessary to expose kids to robotics before they move into their careers.  The 2012-13 season ended with both the Ohio and Pennsylvania State tournaments. Five seniors graduated from the 12-13 season and we added five new students. With a 50% rookie team for the 2013-14 season we implemented innovative new designs and had a lot of fun doing it, going to tournaments and interacting with other FLL FTC and FRC teams. We cannot wait to continue to expand this 2014-15season
